Loretta Nolene Cheney, 87, of Memphis, formerly of Kirksville, died Saturday evening, March 31, 2012.
She was born the daughter of Omer Lawrence Douthitt and Loyce Charity (Crawford) Douthitt on February 6, 1925 in Fruitvale, TX.
Loretta, affectionately known as Fat Granny, graduated from eighth grade, and then received some military training in nursing.
She was married to Paul Seacrest and Robert Hendy Cheney. They preceded her in death.
Loretta worked as a seamstress, a nurse in the military, and as a photographer. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, golfing, crocheting, studying religion, photography, animals, traveling and spending time with her family. Loretta liked movies and television shows, especially her soap operas and WWE wrestling.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her: parents; husbands; a son, George Robert “G.R.” Cheney; a sister Bernice Garrett, and an aunt, Osa Dyer.
She is survived by her children, Omer Lawrence Douthitt II of Mineola, Texas, Lynn Sterling Grissom of Chandler, Texas, and Barbara Sue Cheney of Kirksville; grandchildren, Jessica Ann Sevier and husband Eric of Memphis; Nolene and husband Doug James of Kahoka; Robert Harold Cheney and wife Lana, Glenna Douthitt, Gary Douthitt, Gerald Martin Douthitt, Lorie and husband Tom McClung, Edith Kristine Cheney Evans, Diann Micki Edger, Shelly Louise Rockow and husband Kit; great grandchildren, Christopher Lee Mills, Robert Laine Cheney, Morgan Danielle Evans, Savannah Tyler Evans, Tiaira Oliver, Dustin Edger, Sonia Caldwell, Alexis Fincher,
Kampbel and Nolan James, Becca, Nathaniel, and Elizabeth Sevier, Ryan and Tori
Rockow; great great grandchild, I’Lyah Oliver.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 9, at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis, with Bishop Matt Wilson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Kirksville officiating.

To Barbara and the rest of the family, Our heartfelt condolences for your loss. While those of us left behind shed tears in grief, those that go before us are singing in the glory of their Savior.
